Hello, and welcome to the web site for Troop 5384 of the Girl Scout Council for the Nation's Capital. We are a Takoma Park-based Troop of Brownies and Juniors that draws from many local elementary schools. We have girls that live as far away as Rockville and Chevy Chase as well -- everyone is welcome here!

2013-2014

This is our fourth year as a troop, and we are now Brownies and Juniors! We'll be doing the Agent of Change and BrownieQuest Journeys this fall.

2012-2013

In our third year as a troop, we were all Brownies! We spent the fall working on badges, and then the spring on the A World of Girl Journey.

Our final community service project for this year is a big one! We are collecting items needed by Save the Chimps, a non-profit organization that runs a Chimpanzee sanctuary in Fort Pierce, Florida. We are looking for 50 large Kong toys, 500 large stuffed animals (used are fine but no animals stuffed with pellets please), 780 canisters of oats, 780 boxes of raisins, and 1,560 boxes of penne pasta! This is a huge undertaking and we are hoping you will help us! Flyers for our collection are here and here, and we hope you will help. Donated items can be dropped off at or mailed to 1111 Jackson Avenue, Takoma Park MD 20912. Thank you so much!

In January of 2013, we sent homemade paper snowflakes to the PTA at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Several of our second and third grade girls completed the BrownieQuest in December of 2012. Their final service project was a penny drive to benefit Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore, a Girl Scout council that was highly affected by Hurricane Sandy. Through the drive the girls raised over $300, which we sent to the council to be used for repair and recovery of camp properties.

As a troop we also adopted GSJS Troop 860, a troop of 10 Cadette Girl Scouts. All of the girls were affected by the Hurricane, and as of January 2013 two girls remained homeless. To let them know we were thinking about them, we sent a friendship present in January of 2013.

2011-2012

In May and June 2012, several of our Daisy girls completed the Welcome to the Daisy Flower Garden Journey. As a last step, they wrote these letters to future Daisy Girl Scouts.

Our older girls completed the BrownieQuest journey this year. Their final service project was to collect new toys for donation to the hospital. We ended up donating the toys to the Ronald McDonald house in northeast Washington DC. They were very appreciative of our girls' efforts!

In May 2012, we used the proceeds from our cookie sale to fund an overnight trip to Lincoln Caverns. Our girls earned the Fossil Safari Badge and toured the caves, as well as panning for gems and fossils. A great trip for Brownies!

In April 2012, several of our girls completed the final activity of the Centenary Celebration series provided by the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). Our final activity was to share our favorite part of Girl Scouting with each other.

Spring 2012 News: We sold over 3,800 boxes of cookies this cookie season -- and 313 of those were Gifts of Caring boxes that we donated to So Others Might Eat! Yeah Troop 5384!

At the end of 2011 Troop 5384 ran a very successful food drive to benefit the Carroll House Shelter. Not only did we bring many weeks of food to the shelter, we also provided Troop 5764 with the ingredients for a meal they prepared at the shelter on December 26th, and had enough left over to donate to the Starbucks food drive! Thank you to Trader Joe's for donating the grocery bags we used during the drive!

In March of 2011 we made the world a better place by collecting together 58 pairs of shoes and 23 backpacks to help Leah Muskin-Pierret with her Gold Award Project, Passport to School! Details about her project are here, and a flyer is here.

Between March and May of 2011 we also started the WAGGGS Global Climate Change Patch Program. Some of our work is here.

Way to go Daisies!

In January and February of 2011, a subset of our Daisies completed six activities in order to earn the 2011 WAGGGS World Thinking Day Badge. The theme for the 2011 World Thinking Day was "Millennium Development Goal 3: girls worldwide say "empowering girls will change our world." One of the patch program activities was to create posters that speak out about violence against women. See our Daisies' posters here.

Spring 2011 Semester
This semester we will finish earning our Daisy Petal Patches and take our first Journey. Our community service project for the semester will be related to the environment.
